DEE FOR DOG

Based in Co. Wexford, but also covering Co. Kilkenny and Co. Waterford

DOG AND HOUSE SITTER BASED IN CO. WEXFORD

Welcome to Dee For Dog!

Based in Arthurstown, Co. Wexford, but covering much of Leinster and Munster, Dee For Dog looks after client homes and dogs during holidays, business trips, hospitalisation, etc. Dee For Dog offers a premium bespoke house and dog sitting service where I move into client homes for the duration of a booking in order that not only do dogs remain in their own familiar surroundings, but their exercise, feeding, play and sleep routines remain uninterrupted too.

Not all dogs are suited to or comfortable in a kennel or boarding environment, especially old, nervous, anxious, reactive, shy or special needs dogs. Dee For Dog provides clients with the peace of mind of knowing their dogs have a 1:1 minder in their familiar surroundings and thus experience minimal trauma or separation anxiety during their absence.

House sitting also has the added advantage of providing greater security for client homes versus being vacant whilst they are away, as well as plants and gardens being watered, mail/packages taken in, bins put out/in, etc.

Areas covered include counties Wexford, Kilkenny and Waterford.

About Me

{{brizy_dc_image_alt imageSrc=

My name is Deirdre Manogue. I grew up on a dairy farm near Callan, Co. Kilkenny so have been around animals pretty much all my life and absolutely love dogs!!

After 25+ years in Dublin, I traded city living for village life in the sunny south east in mid 2022. Having observed the growing popularity of house and pet sitting in recent years, I decided to leave office work behind at the end of 2022 and channel my passion for dogs, exercise and the outdoors into a business idea … thus Dee For Dog was born!

In order to gain experience with different dog breeds and to test full-time house/dog sitting, during the research and set-up phase of the business I house/dog sat for some friends and family; I fostered for South East Animal Rescue and I completed a number of bookings through Trusted Housesitters.

I find it hugely rewarding knowing my clients don’t have to worry about their pets whilst they are away from home. I carefully follow their instructions to ensure pets are kept to their usual routines, are well exercised, get lots of play and are made to feel safe, secure and loved.

I am a very organised, responsible, self-sufficient, dependable and caring person. I take great pride in my work and strive to ensure every client returns to happy pets and to find their home as clean and tidy as they left it.

I am a non-smoker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose house/dog sitting instead of kennels/boarding?

Of course some dogs love their kennel stays, but for others a noisy new environment, with new people and a new routine can be unsettling, isolating, stressful and cause anxiety. Engaging a house/dog sitter means your dog(s) will be kept as close as possible to their normal routine in their own familiar surroundings and with a constant companion giving them one-on-one care and attention to make them feel safe, calm and reassured. Engaging a house/dog sitter also avoids the inconvenience of dropping and collecting dog(s) to/from kennels (and all the prep for kennelling), and there is no period of readjustment for your dog(s) upon your return home. Additionally, having your home occupied provides greater security whilst you are away and means your plants and garden are watered, mail/packages taken in, bins put out/in, lights on/off, curtains and blinds opened/closed, etc.

Is a Meet & Greet essential and why?

An initial Meet & Greet is an essential part of my business and I equate it to a 3-sided job interview where client, dog(s) and sitter all get an opportunity to get to know each other and feel assured they are a good fit before committing to a first booking! There is no charge for an initial ‘no obligation’ Meet & Greet visit.

Why is house/dog sitting so much more expensive than kennels?

Where kennels would typically accommodate 10+ dogs at a time, each house/dog sitting booking is a bespoke 1:1 service where the client’s dog(s) have dedicated round-the-clock care and attention in their own home. A client is essentially paying for a sitter’s time which actually equates to well below minimum wage; also bearing in mind a sitter’s overheads include income tax, PRSI, business insurance, transport, phone, memberships, accountancy, marketing, equipment, etc.

Will client receive updates whilst away?

Of course! Clients are sent a daily text update (including photos) to let them know how everything is going, providing assurance that their dog(s) are being well cared for in their absence. During a sit my top priorities are the happiness and welfare of the dog(s) in my care and their owner’s peace of mind. I am available to clients by phone at any time during a sit.

What information does a sitter need to be made aware of ahead of a sit?

It is crucial that clients are completely transparent on what’s needed to properly take care of their home and dog(s). Please be open about your dog’s behaviour, routine, energy levels, temperament and how much walking/exercise they’ll need while you’re away. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can take care of your dog(s) (and home).

What preparation and supplies does the client need to provide?

For overnight house/dog sitting, clients are expected to provide a clean and comfortable bedroom and bathroom including bedding and towels. Client is not obligated to provide any food, but use of basics (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, condiments) would be appreciated. Use of a washing machine is also appreciated for sits of 4+ days duration.

Client Questionnaire

Following an initial Meet & Greet, clients will need to pay a deposit to secure a booking, at which point a client questionnaire will be sent for completion and an acceptance of Terms and Conditions for signature. The purpose of the client questionnaire is to ensure essential information is gathered in relation to a client’s home and their dog(s) to ensure I am best informed and briefed to care for your home and/or dog(s) as best as possible, including any information which may be required in the unlikely event of any emergencies.

Information gathered will include details of microchipping, confirmation of up-to-date vaccinations, vet name/number, emergency contact details, medication (if relevant), feeding times & quantities, dog’s behaviour, routine, energy levels, temperament, fears, triggers, allergies, etc., home security details, bin days, instructions for watering of plants/garden, heating/hot water controls, parking, etc. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can take care of client’s dogs and homes – no amount of information is too much!
